How'd They Rule?
Most of the government in ancient Phoenicians civilizations were monarchies and kingships. There were many royal families and the king could only be chosen from those families. The king also had a "council of elders" to advise him in cases such as Byblos, Sidon, and perhaps Tyre. In Tyre, during Nebuchadrezzar II's reign (605-562 BC), the monarchy or kingship was replaced with a republic. In the republic was administered by judges who held office for a short time.
